Close to 25,000 Experiencing Power in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Storms

Approximately twenty-five thousand homes in south-east Queensland found themselves experiencing outages on the start of the week after powerful weather events impacted the state, bringing powerful gusts hitting over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Impact

Homeowners observed giant hailstones reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts verified that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Emergency crews were focused on reestablishing energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews activated to address the widespread outages.

Victoria's Climate Difficulties

At the same time, nearly one thousand residents in the southern state also faced power outages after the capital city recorded its most precipitation in a year and a half.

State Emergency Services received over five hundred requests for assistance across the region, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Werribee - recorded significant weather impact
• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham region - 179 emergency requests

At the height on Sunday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Meteorological Predictions

Humid circumstances were expected to linger along much of Queensland's east this next several days as a weather pattern continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential predicted across different parts of both states.

Medical Alert

Health officials alerted that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the countryside regions, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This alert comes after previous incidents where analogous circumstances led to major medical consequences in the state.
